Green Globe Stadion Olympiastadion Berlin
Since its reopening in 2004, around 300,000 visitors from all over the world stream to the Olympiastadion Berlin on event free days every year. It was built between 1934 and 1936 for the 1936 Summer Olympics. In the years 2000 to 2004, the Olympic Stadium was renovated and modernised for the 2006 Football World Cup in accordance with its listed status. After completion of the construction work, the stadium now holds 74,475 seats and has been awarded the status of a five-star / elite stadium by UEFA. In addition to a wide variety of major events, a daily tourism programme the Olympic Stadium pursues a comprehensive sustainability concept. The Olympiastadion Berlin is active in ecological, economic and social issues. Thus – as the first stadium world wide – it was certified by Green Globe. This award gives proof of a successful sustainability strategy.
